Since launching BarrelDrop, one of the most frequent requests from our community has been support for shipping to West Africa. Today, we are thrilled to announce three new shipping corridors connecting the US diaspora to Ghana and Sierra Leone.
The New Routes
Starting this month, BarrelDrop users can book shipments to three new destinations in West Africa. Each route is supported by verified providers who specialize in these corridors and have established logistics networks on the ground.
- New York to Accra, Ghana: Estimated delivery in 3 to 4 weeks, with door-to-door service available in Greater Accra
- New York to Kumasi, Ghana: Estimated delivery in 4 to 5 weeks, with pickup points in the Bronx and Brooklyn
- Maryland to Freetown, Sierra Leone: Estimated delivery in 4 to 6 weeks, servicing the DMV area
All three routes include full shipment tracking, escrow payment protection, and photo proof of delivery, the same features available on our Caribbean routes.
Meet the Providers
We have onboarded seven verified providers for these new corridors, each with years of experience shipping to West Africa. These providers went through our standard verification process, including background checks, insurance documentation, and reference verification.
Several of our launch providers have been operating informally within diaspora communities for years and are excited to reach a broader customer base through the platform. Their existing relationships with customs brokers and local delivery networks in Accra, Kumasi, and Freetown mean reliable service from day one.

Introductory Pricing and What to Expect
To celebrate the launch, we are offering 15% off all bookings on West Africa routes for the first 60 days. This discount is applied automatically at checkout with no promo code needed.
Pricing for these routes varies by provider and weight, but early quotes indicate rates starting around $120 for a standard barrel from New York to Accra. Group shipping is available on all three corridors, which can bring the cost down significantly if you are not filling a full barrel.
Customs regulations for Ghana and Sierra Leone differ from Caribbean destinations, so we have added destination-specific customs guides in the app. Be sure to review the allowed and restricted items list before packing your barrel to avoid delays at the port.
What Is Next
